Rachel Boling has thirteen years of experience in case management. She earned a BS degree in Social Work from East Carolina University and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from East Carolina University. A counseling background enables Rachel to work effectively with those who have endured trauma, have psychological issues and/or substance abuse issues. Also, Rachel has undergone specific training to provide case management services to those in the geriatric population. Through her experience in case management she is able to identify the needs and assist in locating necessary resources in the community for the clients of Carolina Eldercare.

Sandy received her RN degree and then obtained certification as a public health nurse in 1986. She has experience in both hospital and home health nursing. She is licensed as a RN in both North and South Carolina and possesses certification in case management and disability management.

Margaret is a Registered Nurse with a Batchelor's Degree and certifications as a case manager and Occupational Health Nurse. She relocated from New York City to the state of North Carolina in 1993 and worked as a Community Alternatives Case Manager in Moore County for a home health agency. She has worked in home health as a case manager and in-home aide supervisor. She has prior experience in discharge planning/case management in the hospital setting and in long term care assessments. She lives in the Wilmington area and stays busy keeping up with her teenage daughter and enjoying the beach, history and other attractions in the Wilmington area.

Kim Deal has been working in the field of Rehabilitation since 2000.  She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 1997 and a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Vocational Evaluation in 2000 both from East Carolina University.  In addition to her Master's Degree, Kim is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).  She became interested in Geriatric Care Management when her aging grandparents became dependent upon the family for their care.  Kim has a great deal of case management and care coordination experience.

Pamela Harris has been working in the field of rehabilitation for more than 24 years. She earned a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Psychology in 1982 and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology in 2006. Her Gerontology studies included advanced research into aging in place, the aging of people with developmental disabilities and geriatric care management. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Case Manager. She became interested in the field of eldercare in the early 1990's when her grandmother, who suffered from dementia, gradually became totally dependent upon care from her children. Her interest in Geriatric Care Management began after her aunt had a debilitating stroke in 1999. Pamela, a baby boomer, finds herself to be an official member of the "sandwich generation" having both young children at home and aging parents 3 hours away. In addition to acting as a Care Manager, Pamela is working with employers and their employees to help them learn to prepare for and cope with issues related to eldercare.

Angela McGarity, BSN, RN, CRRN

Angela earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. She became certified in Rehabilitation (CRRN) after two and a half years as the primary nurse at Wake Rehabilitation, part of the Wake Medical Center. This experience included working with the elderly population after acute injuries/illnesses such as strokes, knee and hip replacements and preparing these patients to return home or to an assisted living facility.  Angela also has experience in health insurance, utilization management, prior plan approval, appeals, grievances, short and long term disability as well as case management experience. During her time working with long term disability, she had the opportunity to work with the elderly community and focus on their health needs.  She is a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses.

Allison Parker earned a Bachelor's Degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She obtained her Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from Campbell University. She has worked in the field of rehabilitation since 1989, serving adults and high school students with varying disabilities, both physical and mental. Allison has always had a strong interest in working with the elderly population. She has worked with residents in rest homes and assisted living facilities. She has also been involved with long term care facilities through her association with the Garner Jaycees.

Barbara earned a Bachelor's degree from Skidmore College, majoring in Sociology. She then received a Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1991. She has worked in the private sector since 1991 providing counseling and support to the geriatric population, helping people to adapt to life changes, and offering hospice services. Barbara previously worked for the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) as a Rehabilitation Counselor. At MCV she worked with cancer patients and others with life ending diseases and their families by providing counseling, coordination with the medical team and adjustment to grief and other life issues. Barbara came to Carolina Eldercare in 2005. She has worked with many families performing care planning assessments, identifying problems and issues of concern or safety, and providing support, counseling and crisis intervention. Barbara is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Patti has been employed as coordinator of medical care and services for the past 7 years. Patti obtained her nursing degree in 1993 and has special interest in care of the elderly. She has worked in long term care facilities and in home health providing care and advice to patients and their families regarding health issues. Patti has personally been affected by caring for aging parents and the healthcare decisions that must be faced with declining health issues. She is aware of the strain that is placed on families who are trying to provide care to family members who are in need of services that they are not always available to provide. Patti continues to stay abreast of changes in treatments and options available for the aging population.

Patti received her undergraduate and Master's degree in Public Health/Occupational Health Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1994. She is a NC Nurse Scholars Scholarship recipient and attained the Sigma Theta Tau Invitational. Since then Patti has worked with numerous companies as a senior nurse consultant which includes facilitating services of in-home and needs assessments, provider visits, and record reviews for optimal outcomes in health and wellness extending quality of life.  Patti continues to provide caring, efficient, and cost effective care services with other care management team members here at Carolina Eldercare.

Teri is a certified Disability Management Specialist with a Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University. She has ten years of experience as a case manager, providing both medical and vocational case management services in private sector rehabilitation. Prior to this, she was an employment counselor with Job Services at JTPA, receiving extensive training in vocational testing and working with individuals with all types of barriers to employment.

Leslie Van Staalduinen, MS, CRC

Leslie Van Staalduinen has 13 years of experience in the case management area. She earned a BA degree in History from Calvin College in 1991 and a BS degree in Anthropology from East Carolina University in 1992. She received her Master of Science degree in Vocational Rehabilitation and Vocational Evaluation from East Carolina University in 1994. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and through 13 years of counseling experience, Leslie has been able to work with individuals who have experienced physical as well as psychological issues. Leslie has undergone specific training, allowing her to provide case management services to those in the geriatric population. She has recently had personal experience with a grandmother who has been diagnosed with dementia, and has become completely dependent upon the care of her family and friends. She has also been admitted to a nursing facility as a result of an acute stroke. Leslie's expertise was instrumental in identifying and coordinating her care. Through personal and professional experience she has had the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in her area regarding resources and assistance for this population.

Becky earned her Master's Degree in Agency Counseling from Appalachian State University, and has worked in private sector rehabilitation since 1983.  She obtained a program certificate in Case Management for the Aging Client from Lewis & Clark Community College (Godfrey, IL) in 2005, and has provided Eldercare Assessments since that time.   She enjoys assisting families in determining their elders' needs, and locating the best possible services for them.
